Reykjavik Energy produces and distributes environmentally-friendly energy in harmony with the environment. We are committed to act in a responsible way towards the environment and society.
Reykjavik Energy has engaged in forestry since 1921. Our efforts to reform land and increase vegetation within our service area grow rapidly each year.
We have planted over 22 thousand trees per year since 1990. Hence, the accumulated absorption of carbon dioxide is almost 1.400 tons. That is considerably more than the total amount of carbon dioxide resulting from our use of energy, i.e. the car fleet, reserve power and heating station.
Reykjavik Energy’s stated policy is to increase the rate of environmentally-friendly, company vehicles. Six years from now, 55% of our company vehicles will be fueled by environmentally friendly energy. Currently, the rate is 10%.
We were among the first, Icelandic companies to publish an annual environment report. In 2005, the Icelandic Ministry for the Environment awarded us for outstanding achievements in environmental control. Our operations are certified for quality, safety and environmental control, with our services extending to 20 communities.”
We are proud of our history regarding the environment. At the same time we are highly motivated to do even better. Our participation in the Iceland Carbon Fund is the natural step forward, and we are determined to use this opportunity to decrease the amount of carbon generated from our employees´ activities both during and after work.
